About
Since 2007, I've researched and written stories as well as interviewed countless people for a wide range of publications and organisations, including BBC News, BBC Science Focus, Chemistry World, Cosmos, Hakai, New Scientist, Scientific American and The Great Outdoors.
Some of my exclusive stories have ended up being picked up by other media outlets across the world. Ones about knitting yarn from human skin and an ancient human-sized sea scorpion are particularly memorable.
I have also been a contributing author for two popular science books.
Before becoming a freelancer 14 years ago, I spent time working for the National Trust for Scotland, BBC Specialist Factual Unit and New Scientist.
I have a BSc in Biology & History and Philosophy of Science (Leeds, 2003); an MSc in Science Communication (Imperial College, 2007); and an MA in History of Medicine (Newcastle, 2008).
When I'm not writing, I make and edit films. To find out about my film and editing work please head over here.
